Handshake Inc. is born in NYC:
It was four a.m. in New York City - Manhattan in the bowery district. Dave C and David H decided to take a walk. It was drizzling and there was a late-fall warmth in the air. At a nearby intersection, an insane old-lady stood on a median and cheered the oncoming traffic. "This is amazing," said David H, "Yeah," replied Dave C. "And to think - the reason we're standing here, in New York City, at four a.m., is all because of a movie we made." That's how Handshake Inc. was born.
In the fall of 2008 friends and creative partners David Hall and Dave Cardoso decided to quit their day jobs and work for themselves by creating meaningful and totally awesome films and music videos. In the early spring and Summer of 2008, David and Dave made 'Axis of Eden,' a feature film companion to the album of the same name by underground-metal heroes 'Today is the Day.' The film was released on Halloween, 2008, and following reviews in Decibel and Terrorizer magazine, and a premiere of a video from the film on MTV, David and Dave accompanied the band on their Mid-West tour of the USA playing live to the movie. They've been chasing the dream ever since.
David Hall graduated from Concordia University’s prestigious filmmaking bachelor of fine arts program in 1999 and has had his nose to the cinematic grind stone ever since. After mentoring with Kevin Tierney, one of Canada’s most successful producers, for two years, David signed on with The Characters talent agency as a writer, penning spec scripts for the likes of Gary Oldman and William Hurt, as well as writing for episodic Canadian television.
In 2005, David turned his attention to directing and completed his first feature film “The Romance is Dead.” Three years later, David wrote, produced and directed “Axis of Eden,” a feature film based on the album of the same name by seminal noise-metal gods Today is the Day. ‘Axis of Eden,’ was released on Supernova Records, and saw reviews in Terrorizer magazine, Decibel, Revolver and MTV’s Headbanger’s’ blog. Two videos from ‘Axis of Eden’ saw world premiers on MTV’s Headbangers Ball.
In early 2009, David wrote, produced and directed “Disgorge, Mexico,” a feature film for Quebec grind-metal kings F*ck the Facts. Disgorge, Mexico will see a release on Relapse records in late 2009.
A graduate of Fanshawe College’s Advanced Filmmaking Program, Dave has been making films for 3 years, focusing on directing, shooting, editing and producing. In 2008, Dave shot ‘Axis of Eden,’ a feature film released on Supernova Records, and shot ‘IED,’ a music video for Nashville’s Today is the Day, which premiered on MTV.
In 2009, Dave shot his second feature, “Disgorge, Mexico” for release on Relapse Records, and had his second MTV premiere with “Free at Last,” a second video he shot for Today is the Day. Apart from cinematography, Dave is an avid photographer with over two years of professional experience.
In May of 2009 Dave will start principal photography on the feature doc 'Maryland Deathfest: The Movie.'
